A Captivating Nature Drama Animation Film by Raf Wathion

Black Wolf is an animated nature drama film directed by Raf Wathion and written by Raf Wathion & Koen Mortier. The film tells a powerful story of survival, transformation, and identity, following the extraordinary life of a black wolf who forges his own path in the wild.

Inspired by real-life events, this film explores the challenges of a wolf’s existence in Yellowstone Park, where dominance and survival define every aspect of life. Unlike the traditional pack hierarchy, the black wolf finds his own way—learning, adapting, and eventually rising in status after years of hardship and solitude.

Synopsis

At the bottom of the wolf pack, a young black wolf avoids confrontation and tries to take advantage of the fruits of others’ labor. This, alongside his growing popularity with the she-wolves, greatly irritates the alphas of his pack.

As he comes of age, he fights for survival in his own cowardly manner, losing all of his family along the way. Attracted by some young females, he finds a place in a new wolf pack and endures the dominance of a new alpha male wolf. Only at an older age does the black wolf rise up to the occasion to defend more than himself.

It’s a story about a wolf trying to become a wolf.

The True Story Behind Black Wolf

Black Wolf is an animation film based on the documented life of a wolf. By walking unconventional paths, he finds a solution for a longer existence in his hard-won environment.

The black wolf follows a different course of action, a path that suited him well, as he passed away at an exceptional old age for a wild wolf.

Born and raised in the Leopold pack of Yellowstone Park, he held the status of an omega, constantly dominated and begging for food.
A life of solitude – After fleeing from danger, his vulnerable pack broke apart, leading him to a lone existence on the edges of wolfpack territories.
Transformation into an alpha – Over time, he transitioned from an outcast to a devoted leader of a new wolf pack.

“A lone wolf’s journey is not about dominance, but survival. Black Wolf tells the story of resilience, adaptation, and the quiet strength of those who walk their own path.”
